The artwork proposed for Vikela Safari Lodge is conceived not as decoration, but as an extension of the architecture, and an embedded layer of meaning that lives within the space. Each piece is approached through a multidisciplinary lens, where art, design, and spatial experience converge.
Together, they form a tactile and visual language that responds to place, culture, and the human experience of inhabiting space.
Rather than standalone objects, these works are curated as a spatial composition considered in relation to architecture, circulation, and the guest experience. The intention is to create moments of pause, discovery, and emotional and contextual resonance, allowing the artwork to subtly shape how the space is felt, not just seen.
Vikela Safari Lodge becomes a place to experience where art and architecture exist in dialogue, and where each element contributes to a deeper, more meaningful narrative of place.

Wave of Aspiration
This mixed-media artwork captures the dynamic interplay between dreams, aspirations, and innovation as catalysts for change. The central wave, crafted from rich coffee on natural bull denim, symbolizes the fluidity and constant evolution of dreams; rising, crashing, and transforming in the pursuit of growth.
The coffee’s deep, grounding tones reflect the everyday struggles and experiences that nurture ambition, while the layered texture evokes the process of building and evolving ideas over time.
Accentuating the wave’s light reflections are gold leaf details, representing moments of brilliance and breakthrough; the aspirations that shine brightest when nurtured and realized. These golden highlights act as beacons, guiding the way toward innovation and change. The space between the waves embodies the vast potential of the dream world, a place of infinite possibilities where the unknown transitions into reality.

This artwork examines the tensions between beauty, consumption, and environmental destruction, placing a sharp focus on how the insatiable demand for fast fashion is compounding the climate crisis. The vibrant beach scene, painted in oil, contrasts with the headless Barbie doll, symbolizing how nature’s inherent beauty is overshadowed by the hollow promises of consumerism.
The Barbie doll, severed from identity, speaks to the loss of self-awareness in a world where the pursuit of fleeting trends takes precedence over sustainable choices. Its nudity, representing “having nothing to wear”, highlights the paradox of excess: an endless supply of clothing, yet a profound disconnect from our personal and planetary needs.
The canvas, woven from old textiles (many containing non-biodegradable plastics) draws attention to the stark reality of textile waste. This is not just about discarded garments; it’s about the immense carbon footprint of the fast fashion industry.
The devastating effects of overproduction ripple across the globe. The disproportionate scale of the Barbie doll serves as a stark reminder of how consumerism has warped our desires, pushing us to the brink of ecological collapse.
